Report: Douglas County remains among healthiest in Kansas
Douglas County residents are some of the healthiest in Kansas, according to the annual County Health Rankings report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin. For the second year in a row, Douglas County was ranked the eighth in the state. Riley and Johnson counties were first and second. Decatur and Woodson counties were at the bottom of the list.

Conviction Upheld In 2012 Manhattan New Year's Shooting

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- The Kansas Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the man associated with a New Year’s shooting in Riley County. Daniel Parker was convicted in Riley County court for felony murder and criminal discharge of a firearm steaming from a 2012 incident.

Ex-Fort Riley Soldier To Appeal Murder Conviction
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — An ex-Fort Riley soldier will appeal his first-degree murder conviction next week to the Kansas Supreme Court. Daniel Parker was sentenced to life in prison in October 2013 for the death of a 21-year-old Frederick Beverly at a Manhattan clubhouse.

Former Greeley resident’s son killed in Kansas explosion
Spencer Unruh, the 17-year-old son of former Greeley resident Mike Unruh, was killed Saturday in an explosion in the family’s home in Plymell, Kan. Kelly Unruh, Riley Unruh and Spencer were in the home at the time of the explosion, according to Kelton Brooks of The Garden City Telegram.
