Victim of Polson Hammer Assault Dies
POLSON – A Polson man who was struck in the head with a hammer nearly two weeks ago has died of his injuries. Lake County Undersheriff Dan Yonkin tells KERR-AM that 67-year-old John Barrows of Polson died at a Kalispell hospital on Saturday.

A man shot in the abdomen late Friday during an altercation at a home north of Moses Lake was taken to Samaritan hospital in Moses Lake, then Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. His condition was not disclosed. Grant County sheriff’s deputies and Moses Lake police responded to a report of shots fired around 11:45 p.m. and found the victim on the floor.

Fort Polk Veteran Gets 30 Years in Whitefish Soldier’s Death

LAKE CHARLES, La. — A 28-year-old Army veteran, who pleaded guilty in June to second-degree murder in the 2010 slaying of a soldier at Fort Polk, has been sentenced in federal court in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV reports Marcus Carey was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison in the death of Byron Whitcomb, of Whitefish, Mont., and for the attempted murder of another soldier, Howard Alley.

Appeal planned for Baker in Vernon Hills murder
