Pardons board rejects plea for posthumous pardon in Corsicana murder

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles on Thursday summarily rejected a bid to clear the name of a man executed 10 years ago for killing his three young children in a Corsicana house fire. Lawyers with the New York-based Innocence Project had asked the board of a posthumous pardon for Cameron Todd Willingham, who was convicted, they claimed, on "discredited" evidence regarding the 1991 fire.

A Corsicana-born woman died March 12 in Missouri City, Texas, near Houston, and her husband, Daniel Mark Politte, is a suspect in her death. Stephanie Kay Kirkpatrick Politte, 29, who moved to Sugar Land with her family when she was 13, was found dead last week at her home with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, according to the Missouri City Police Department.
