NORFOLK Murder charges against three men accused in a July slaying will be heard by a grand jury, a judge ruled Thursday. Two of the three had previously been charged in connection with unrelated killings but were released. Kareem Turner was charged with murder in the 2010 killing of off-duty Norfolk police Officer Victor Decker in Virginia Beach.

Woman charged after man fatally hit in Va. Beach lot

VIRGINIA BEACH Police have charged a woman with murder after the death of a man hit by a car in a school parking lot this weekend. Officers were called to Plaza Middle School at 3080 S. Lynnhaven Road about 5:30 a.m. Saturday on a report that a man had been struck. Richard Owen Pentz, 47, of the 800 block of Crepe Myrtle Lane, was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Hubbard indicted in Oceanfront pharmacist shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH Walter Lane Hubbard was indicted by a grand jury today in the April shooting death of an Oceanfront pharmacist. The indictment means Hubbard will stand trial in Circuit Court on charges of shooting and killing David Kilgore on April 14. Hubbard, 55, faces counts of first-degree murder, robbery, attempted robbery and three of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

NORFOLK A sailor accused of attempted murder for stabbing another sailor at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center has been declared incompetent to stand trial, his lawyer said Thursday. Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilbur Harwell was charged on July 24 with attempted murder and aggravated assault. He is accused of attacking Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Powell with a knife in the barracks on June 6.
